OPGW optical cable is to place the optical fiber in the ground wire of the overhead high-voltage transmission line to form the optical fiber communication network on the transmission line. This structure has the dual functions of ground wire and communication. The optical power ground wire is more reliable, stable and firm due to the metal wire wrapping. Because the overhead ground wire and the optical cable are combined as a whole, compared with other methods of optical cables, the construction period is shortened and the construction cost is saved.

The Aluminum tube is surrounded by single or double layers of aluminum clad steel wires (ACS) or mix ACS wires and aluminum alloy wires. Good anti-corrosion preformance. Material and structure are uniform, good resistance to vibration fatigue.

Quality and Testing
There are different test series to assure the quality of alteoptic' OPGW Cable:
∗ Routine test (in‒process testing according to internal quality plan)
∗ Factory acceptance test (FAT, witnessed by customer)
∗ Type test (only in case of a basic new design, repetition in exceptional cases)
tests shall be in accordance with applicable standards or agreements between purchaser and manufacturer. As a general rule the tests will be performed according IEC 60794-4-10.However, if necessary tests can be done according to IEEE Std1138.
OPGW Type Test
Type test may be waived by submitting makerʼs certificate of the similar product performed in an internationally acknowledged independent test organization or laboratory. If type test should be performed, it will be carried out according to an extra type test procedure reached
to an agreement between purchaser and manufacturer.
OPGW Routine Test
The optical attenuation coefficient on all production cable lengths is measured according to IEC 60793-1-CIC (Back-scattering technique, OTDR). Standard single-mode fibers are measured at 1310nm and at 1550nm. Non-zero dispersion shifted single‒mode (NZDS) fibers are
measured at 1550nm.
